Lake Garda

Lake Garda is Italy’s largest lake, with a great set of stunning views, pictoresque villages, castles, villas and gardens. You can spend just few hours visiting one single village of your choice, or opt for a more complete half or day-long tour, driving along the coast…

On Lake Garda, one of the most popular destination is Sirmionecalled the pearl of the lake-, a famous thermal location well known already in roman times. It remains a roman magnificent villa, at the end of the peninsula, nowadays called ‘Grottos’, which can be visited and offer magnificent views of the lake. Sirmione is a small town dominated by a medieval Castle and full of ice-cream shops. On a boat (extra fee to be paid) we can reach Salò, famous town on the lake, because Benito Mussolini founded the ‘Italian Social Republic’ here in September 1943. A few kilometers north of Salò, in Gardone Riviera the atmosphere changes completely: among various luxurious villas there is the ‘Vittoriale degli Italiani’, former residence of the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. We can also visit the Hruska botanical garden, surrounded with alpine flora but also Mediterranean and tropical vegetation.

Following the western coast of the lake you will reach Gargnano and admire Villa Feltrinelli where Mussolini used to live with his mistress and then reach the picturesque town of Limone. Riva del Garda and Torbole bring us to the Trentino region and the typical atmosphere of the XIXth century when the Habsburgs ruled this area.
Soon we can see
Malcesine, a small fisherman’s village with a medieval castle from the time of the Della Scala domination perched atop a rock looking over the lake. A short stop is mandatory and you can explore the narrow and quite steep alleys paved with cobblestones.
Many famous people visited
Punta San Vigilio, near the town of Garda, where the beautiful renaissance villa overlooking the ‘Bay of Sirens’ hosted, amongst others, Maria Luisa duchess of Parma, the emperor of Russia Alexander, Winston Churchill, various members of the British and Spanish royalty, Laurence Olivier.

Finally we stop in two small medieval towns along the way: both Garda and Bardolino offer interesting architecture, ancient churches, many shopping opportunities and endless views of the biggest lake of Italy, but Lazise and Peschiera are the ones that deserve a stop if your interest is history and architecture: Lazise is sorrounded by medieval walls and towers hiding a lovely port; Peschiera is a water fortress crossed by a canal where fishermen still park their boats just in front of the restaurant terraces.

The rate of 150€ and the duration of 3 hours refer to a “basic tour” including two villages of the south-western coast (Peschiera/Lazise or Lazise/Bardolino); for longer tours, a special price will be calcolated on your specific request.
