Our bike ride starts from Piazza Brà and you immediately notice the stunning roman amphitheatre, the Arena, known throughout the world for the opera performances held in summer. Your guide will tell you about the history, the art and culture of Verona and about the famous people that are linked to the city, without forgetting our most famous claim to fame: the love story of Romeo ad Juliet.
The roman domination, which started more than two thousand years ago, left us the easily recognizable outlay of the city centre and many monuments such as the Arena, the Roman Theatre, the roman Stone Bridge, still used nowadays, and further well preserved monuments such as Porta Borsari and the Arco dei Gavi. Let us not forget the Della Scala family! They ruled Verona in the XIVth century and built castles and fortresses: Castelvecchio and its bridge, their city dwellings and their elaborate tombs called Arche Scaligere. The heritage of four centuries of venitian domination are the many beautiful and richly decorated palaces and the new city walls plus entrance gates which were reinforced and completed by the Austrians during their rule in the XIXth century.
